On 17^th May 2008 morning, India once again woke up to dreadful news of a teenage girl being murdered at her residence. The girl was daughter of a dentist couple, Dr. Rajesh Talwar and Dr. NupurTalwar. The family lived in an apartment in Sector 25 (JalvayuVihar) of Noida, Uttar Pradesh . At mere age of fourteen, the victim was forced to leave the world even before her life was started. Her parents were a working couple, leaving behind her daughter with a domestic help to take care of her daily chores. As the incident came to light,the first suspect identified by cops was Hemraj Banjare who was serving as domestic help at the Talvar’s residence.

But the shocker was yet to come. The following day police found partially decomposed dead body of Hemraj  on the terrace. Hence the case infamously got the name of Noida double murder case. The case aroused public interest as a whodunit story, and received heavy media coverage.Based on this dreadful event, Vishal Bharadwaj has come up with a bollywood movie named as Talvar (Click here to watch Trailer) which depicts the whole plot and unfolds how events took place at that time.

What followed next were numerous stories which not only confused the local cops but forced them to hand over the case to CBI for further investigations. On the night of 15-16 March 2008, Shruti Tandon (Ayesha Parveen), a 14-year girl is found dead at her home in Sameer Vihar of Noida. The family’s missing domestic help Khempal is initially sought as a suspect. However, the next day, his dead body is found on terrace of the building. The police suspect that the girl’s parents, Ramesh (Neeraj Kabi) and Nutan (Konkona Sen Sharma), to be the murderers. On 25 March, the Noida police arrest Ramesh Tandon for the two murders. On 1 April, the state’s Chief Minister Malawati hands over the case to CDI, the country’s elite investigating police agency.

The CDI detective Ashwin Kumar (Irrfan Khan) holds contempt for the sloppy first responders who botched the initial crime-scene investigation. He believes the parents to be innocent, and methodically builds a case against the father’s resentful assistant. His team uses narco tests, attempting to prove that the assistant and his two accomplices committed the murders. On 22 June 2008, he officially exonerates the parents, and Ramesh Tandon is released from the jail. The narrative also briefly discusses the dissolution of Kumar’s marriage.

On 9 July 2008, CDI hands over the case to a new probe team. Khan’s new superior refocuses the investigation on the parents as the suspects. On 20 February 2011, CDI files a closure report in Ghaziabad court, naming parents as the prime suspects, but states that the evidence is insufficient to initiate prosecution. On 15 March, the Tandons file a protest plea opposing CDI’s report. On 25 March, the judge rejects the closure report and makes the parents an accused in the case. The trial begins on 8 June 2012. In the final act, rival camps with opposing hypotheses then make their cases before a judge. The Tandons are convicted for the murders on 26 November 2013.

The mystery case is very well put up in the movie, which is written by reknowed Vishal Bharadwaj and directed by MeghnaGulzar. The film stars Irrfan Khan, KonkonaSen Sharma, NeerajKabi and Sohum Shah in leading roles and Tabu in a guest appearance. The film is produced by Junglee Pictures, the films division of The Times of India Group. Full marks goes to the actors for putting up a splendid performances which keeps us involved in the movie and also credits to the director for depicting the sequence of events very well.
